A is for Apple Turnovers!

So we started with Apple Turnovers! What a lovely time we had working on this together!

James made the dough. It had butter. Lots and lots of butter!

I peeled, cored and sliced the apples then put them in a lemon water bath.

The dough needed to be rolled out,  have still more butter added and then refrigerated.

James didn't want his picture taken.... He can be a spoilsport sometimes but doesn't he look cute?? ;)
I started the filling, which was the apples, sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice. It had to be stirred constantly. Wish you could smell the yumminess!!!!

After rolling out the dough, adding more butter, folding it and wrapping it in plastic, it went back in the fridge for another hour.

Finally it was time to roll out the dough again and fill it with deliciousness! We baked them and then got out the ice cream.

My mom came over to show us her new hair cut and we had her sit and enjoy some of this with us. I was so proud to share what we had made together. We also were lucky to have her with us for advice in helping make Tamale Pie for dinner. My mom has always had the cooking gift. I appreciate her passing some of it on to me! With more practice and experimentation, someday I aspire to her level of cooking ability. :)
James and I had a great time creating these and eating them. I look forward to our next cooking adventure! We will probably try Asparagus later this week. Still trying to decide on a new technique that begins with "A". Suggestions??

  1. Those look so yummy! Such a cute idea! I may try to convince Brian that we should follow your lead. :) We have fun cooking together on occasion.

Are you doing something fun and new with asparagus? I can't wait to see!

  2. You had me hooked when you said BUTTER!!! Those look nummy!!!
I want your mom's recipe for her Tamale Pie. Larmer and I used to cook together all the time. Once and a while I can still get him to do something, but he forgets how to do so much of it, even with me there to remind and show him how. Another great site to check out is:

Looking forward to the next one.
